Kathleen Newman

Native to the Chicago area, Kathleen Newman combines a focused sense of observation and sensitivity in her award winning pastel and oil landscape paintings. She strives to capture the certain mood of the moment and utilizes subtle color nuance in her work to create a sense of light and atmosphere. “Using oil or pastel, my paintings are both a representation of the outside world and a reflection of my inner response to its beauty, in particular a sense of calm experienced during late afternoon and early evening light. I focus during the process and through my painting practice, I am learning to see. The ability to look and simplify, to organize the value patterns, shapes, edges and color is a never-ending course of study. As an artist, I hope to communicate this experience and then recreate a similar mood in the viewer as well.” She is currently a Masters Circle/Eminent Pastelist Award recipient of the International Association of Pastel Societies, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, the American Impressionist Society, the American Society of Marine Artists, American Transparent Watercolor Society, Chicago Pastel Painters Master and a member of the Palette and Chisel Academy of Chicago. Her paintings are collected internationally and have been featured in magazines and publications. www.kathleennewman.com
