Painting on location fosters perception and appreciation of the subtle nuance of color information in the landscape, something a camera cannot capture. This experience can also be realized through sketchbook work, providing a quicker and easier method of gathering information. Working in a sketchbook fosters the meditative mindset of focused observation that is required to interpret our world around us. A sketchbook is compact to carry and readily available to complete a sketch in a matter of minutes or hours, depending on the time at hand. As a sketchbook enthusiast, Kathleen is thrilled to teach the enjoyment of drawing on site, encourage students to record their own experiences and deepen their relationship with Nature.
Goals for the workshop:
Explore the wilderness and natural sanctuary that is Point Reyes National Seashore through observational drawing and painting exercises in a sketchbook.
Learn to observe nature through meditative exploration using continuous line drawing, gesture and thumbnail sketching with pencil and pen techniques.
Combine drawing with watercolor to create recordings/paintings of your relationship to Nature.
We will keep our supplies lightweight and portable: a sketchbook, pen, watercolor palette and a few brushes is all that is needed.
