Klean Kanteen

Klean KanteenBefore anybody else was making stainless steel water bottles for personal hydration, before the health and environmental issues linked to plastic use were widely known, Klean Kanteen was cobbling together the first Klean Kanteen® prototype from things they bought at the local hardware store in Chico, California. In addition to adopting business policies that support environmental and fair labor practices, Klean Kanteen partners with likeminded nonprofits and environmental organizations working to educate the public about health and environmental issues.

Marin Organic

Logo for Marin OrganicMarin Organic is a cooperative association of Marin County organic producers whose livelihood is based on a respect for nature and a sense of place. They understand the importance—ecological, social, and economic—of bringing the field closer to the table. Therefore, they are dedicated to continually improving our farming practices, promoting the ethical, creative, and patient enterprise of sustainable agriculture, and encouraging a preference for locally produced food.

The Marin Organic School Lunch and Gleaning Program is helping to transform the school lunch choices for our kids. Five years ago, Marin Organic saw the potential in creatively connecting local farms to local schools to help our communities thrive. Now this extraordinary program each week enables 12,000 students from more than half of Marin’s schools to eat organic foods grown in Marin, while cultivating a strong connection to place through innovative education for these school children.

Marin Sun Farms

Logo for Marin Sun FarmsMarin Sun Farms is the extension of the Evans' family farm, nestled in the rolling grasslands of the Point Reyes National Seashore in Northern California. They are focused and committed to producing local, pasture based food for their Bay Area community with the aspiration of building a sustainable food model.

They strive to allign their production with the natural principles that a holistic, connected, perception of the world provides. They understand that an approach that mimics natural processes is the key to maintaining the stable functioning of our ecosystem. To that end, they raise 100% grass-fed beef, lamb, goat, pasture raised chickens, pork, and simply the best eggs you've ever had.

McEvoy Ranch

Logo for McEvoy RanchMcEvoy Ranch's oils are the result of a mindful and passionate dedication to excellence, from orchard to bottle and are certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). Their olives are grown, harvested, milled, blended and bottled entirely on the ranch. At Tuscan agronomist and olive oil production consultant Maurizio Castelli's recommendation, in 1997 the ranch imported the "Maserati of olive oil mills" (their state-of-the-art Rapanelli frantoio), now an integral part of the cold-process production unique to McEvoy Ranch.

Straus Family Creamery

Logo for Straus Family CreameryThis small, family-owned dairy farm began when Bill Straus began farming in 1941 with just 23 cows on the beautiful shores of Tomales Bay and the Point Reyes National Seashore, 60 miles north of San Francisco. Ellen Straus, his wife, read the book Silent Spring by Rachel Carson in the early 1960s and began the family's strong commitment to environmental sustainability. They have been farming here for more than 65 years. They still consider their most important responsibility to be stewardship of the land.

In 1994 their farm became the first certified organic dairy west of the Mississippi River. In February 1994, Albert forged ahead and opened Straus Family Creamery to produce organic milk, yogurt, butter, and ice cream under the family name.

They also get some of their milk from other neighboring certified-organic family farms, the Hughes and Tresch families, who have become an extended part of the Straus family. They are all deeply committed to:

  • Producing milk and dairy products that are organic and healthful for everyone
  • Developing sustainable, environmentally sound practices in farming and food processing and in rural community planning

To achieve these goals, they raise all their cows according to National Organic Standards and their land is certified organic. The Straus family continues to be active in farmland protection and other environmental issues.

Their milk is so rich and fresh tasting that the genuine, premium taste is a surprise to most folks. Their European Style butter, European Style yogurts, and deliciously rich ice cream are wonderfully tasty—they've won gold medals at the Los Angeles County Fair, The American Cheese Society, and the California State Fair. They have been named the Best Butter in America by House and Garden Magazine. Their products have been called "extraordinary" by Martha Stewart, who has featured our dairy, creamery, and products on her television show.

They hope to continue making great tasting organic products for another 65 years, and another 65 years and another 65…
