These exciting programs are designed especially for teenagers and feature extended backpacking trips into the heart of the Point Reyes National Seashore wilderness. Participants practice leave-no-trace wilderness ethics and accomplish backcountry living tasks through self-reliance and teamwork, forming strong friendship bonds that endure long after returning home.
Each backpacking group of 13 campers is guided by one professional naturalist and two highly trained counselors. Adventure Campers (I) , ages 12 to 14, share a 3-day backpacking trip with their cabin group of the same gender and end the session with a reunion feast and campfire finale. Adventure Campers (II), ages 14 to 16, share 4 days in the backcountry in a mixed gender group and end the session with a reunion feast and dance party at the Education Center.
Participants must be capable of hiking up to seven miles per day while carrying a 30 to 40 pound backpack. PRSC provides all group gear including stoves, cooking equipment, tarps and all meals and snacks. Participants are asked to bring their own sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpack, and mess kit. Loaner gear is available with prior arrangement. A complete gear list is provided upon registration.
The number one concern for our staff and program is providing a safe and caring environment. Our carefully chosen staff and our small trail group size ensure that the emotional and physical safety of our campers is kept a top priority. Camp also has a close partnership with the National Park Service staff who are located close by and are available in case of an emergency.
We encourage 14 year olds with no backpacking experience to register for Adventure Camp I.

Sunrise-7:30 Wake up with the early birds, or maybe sleep in a little, depending on the hike that is ahead of you! The staff will get breakfast going and will need help with the meal preparation and clean-up!
8:30-10:00 Finish cleaning up after breakfast and pack up your belongings and group gear. Maybe do some stretching or start your day with a reflective moment before heading out on trail.
10:00-12:00 Hike until it feels right to stop for lunch on trail. Take a breather to rest and digest before continuing on your adventure.
1:00-4:00 Continue along your way until your group reaches its next campsite destination. Once at camp, take a break before starting the evening's meal preparation.
5:00-7:00 Everyone pitches in to make your backcountry dinner a success! Participation in meal preparation and clean-up is vital to ending the day right. Maybe catch the sunset from a mountaintop or down on the beach.
7:00-9:30 Have a beach bonfire or tell stories back at camp as you settle in for a night under the stars. A good night's sleep is essential for the next day's adventures!
10:00 Fall asleep under the stars (can someone please turn off the moon?)
