  Summer Camp

Located 80 minutes north of San Francisco, Point Reyes Summer Camp provides three camp experiences: Nature Science Camp (separate sessions for ages 7-9, 9-11, and 10-12), Adventure Camp I (ages 12-14) and Adventure Camp II (ages 14-16). Making friends, being immersed in the natural world, and stewardship are key components of our program. Campers learn how to take responsibility for their individual actions and to have fun working together as a team. They are given choices for their activities including tidepooling, hiking, bird watching, exploring mudflats, improvisational theater, earth art, crafts, and lots more. The quality of camp staff and programs is exemplified by an over 50% return rate of campers.

Point Reyes Summer Camp has been committed to sustainability since its beginnings in the 1970s. Food waste is composted and recycled, some electricity and hot water is produced using solar panels, and campers learn leave-no-trace ethics while in the field. Campers also pitch in with daily chores such as cabin clean up and an all-camp clean up at the end of the week. Facilities at The Clem Miller Environmental Education Center (our home base) include a beautiful cedar lodge consisting of a dining hall, science room, and a kitchen. In addition, there are four dormitory-style cabins staffed by eight Naturalist Intern/Counselors as well as a centrally located bathhouse with hot showers. Our carefully screened staff also includes six Naturalists resulting in a ratio of 3 campers per teaching staff.

The Point Reyes National Seashore boasts over 70,000 acres of bishop pine and Douglas fir forests, coastal strand, beaches, marshland, and grassland. The Seashore is a hotbed of bird life (45% of all North American species have been sighted here) and is home to some 60 species of mammals including bobcats, gray foxes, sea lions, elephant seals and tule elk.
