Thank you to the sponsors, in-kind donors, volunteers, and guests who helped make our inaugural fundraising event, Dinner on the Pacific Plate, a resounding success.
The event, held on October 9th, started with a six different hikes led by local naturalists followed by a cocktail hour at the grove in Bear Valley. Guests were then treated to a gourmet trail dinner under the shelter of an elegant Zephyr tent. Our host, Doug McConnell, shared his passion for the park and guests were treated to a debut screening of Doug's film "Touching Nature" that presented how PRNSA's environmental education programs are bringing children, and especially underserved urban children, to the seashore. Brijeanae Foster, a 14-year-old summer camp participant from Vallejo, shared what her time at Point Reyes Summer Camp has meant to her life. The evening ended with an auction of five unique live auction items, including dinner for six at the Point Reyes Lighthouse catered by Manka's and Favia Wines. The beautiful autumn weather only added to a magical afternoon and evening that brought park supporters and stewards together to celebrate our magnificent seashore.
The $83,000 raised at the event will continue to help PRNSA support park programs that help maintain and protect wildlife habitats, trails, and historic sites in our amazing park and allow us to continue to build on our Seashore Explorer's Scholarship Program that this past year provided 650 scholarships to children from underserved communities to enjoy their first experience exploring nature in a national park. From all of us at PRNSA, we would like to thank the many individual donors and businesses that helped make this evening such a success and look forward to next year's event.
