By Public Transportation

Public transportation in West Marin and Point Reyes is limited. On weekends and holidays from late December through mid-April when visitation by whale watchers to the Point Reyes Lighthouse area is heavy, visitors may be required to ride a shuttle bus from Drakes Beach to the Lighthouse and Chimney Rock areas. Point Reyes National Seashore offers no other public transportation.

West Marin Stagecoach provides limited public transportation Mondays through Saturdays between Inverness and San Rafael along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. On Wednesdays and Fridays, the Stagecoach provides transportation between Marin City and Point Reyes Station along Highway 1. For a full listing of bus routes and times, visit their on-line map and schedule (679 KB PDF). For more information, call 415-526-3239.

There is no public transportation to the Point Reyes area on Sundays since Golden Gate Transit route #65 was taken out of service as of March 9, 2003. For more information on GGT and to access GGT schedules and maps, visit GGT's website or call toll-free 511 from within the Bay Area or 415-455-2000 if calling from outside the Bay Area.
