How can you tell a moth from a butterfly? How do various species of butterflies spend the winter? What butterfly is our state insect? What’s an instar? What host plants do butterflies use and how can we attract butterflies to our garden? Learn the answers to these and all your other butterfly questions on an exploration of Cascade Canyon. This is NOT a collecting class but an opportunity to observe, learn and delight up-close. By the end of the day you will be on a first name basis with about ten species of butterflies and be inspired to continue exploring and studying on your own. For families with children 5 and up.
There is still time to register for this class by calling us at (415) 663-1200.

Come spend a special weekend with your child, niece or nephew,
grandchild or other young friend learning about the extraordinary natural world of Point Reyes. We will focus on learning about the wild animals and their lifestyles in the park as we search together through various
habitats. The weekend will include a trip to the tide pools at low tide, a hike through the forest, time on the beach, a visit to a fresh water pond and an evening twilight walk. Sharon and Kevin will guide the group through the weekend’s activities, providing time for families to learn together, as well as kids-only and adults-only activities. Scavenger hunts and fun nature games are a few activities you will enjoy and there will also e free time for your own explorations and play. Accommodations are included at our base camp, the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center (see description on page 29.)
