Explore the wild seascapes of San Francisco on this one-way hike along the Coastal Trail. Discover sandstones at the Cliff House, mélange at Lands End, and serpentinite at the Presidio, as well as beach, dune, and landslide deposits that sculpt this scenic shoreline. Discover the complex geology of the Franciscan rocks that record the collision and subduction of the Farallon Plate beneath North America. During our trip, we will also learn about natural hazards, the 1906 earthquake, Ice Age cycles, and climate change.
Location: Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email with directions to the meeting location!
-This is a 5 mile hike with up to 750 feet of elevation gain, be sure to be prepared and wear shoes with good tread.
-We will be caravan/carpooling, be sure that your vehicle has gas before arriving to the meeting location.
-Youth, ages 12 and up, are welcome with adult supervision.

Class Cancellation Policy: If a registered participant wishes to cancel their enrollment and receive a refund, notification must be received at least 14 days in advance of the class date. No refunds will be issued for enrollment cancellations made less than 14 days in advance of the class date. Class enrollment fees are non-transferable. In the event that the PRNSA Field Institute cancels a class, participants will receive a full refund of class fee.
