Birding 101

Birding 101

Sun, February 11
Enhance your birding skills in dramatic Point Reyes! This class will cover bird identification basics, binocular use, and guides.

This is a very good season for learning birding and enjoying it at Point Reyes. This class will cover the basics of field identification in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

While observing birds in a variety of habitats, this program will offer insights into the use of binoculars, scopes, apps and field guides. Coastal estuaries such as Limantour Estero or Bolinas Lagoon are rich feeding areas for a large number of ducks, shorebirds and other water birds. Many hawks, falcons and other raptors occur in large numbers due to these rich feeding conditions.

We will practice techniques for separating warblers, thrushes, flycatchers and other land birds in short walks.

Come discover why birding is one of the most popular pastimes in the country, and why Point Reyes is one of the best locations to enjoy it.
