Chiura Obata painted and instructed art at UC Berkeley in the 1930’s. His Sumi brush painting, which depicts a single oak tree still hangs in the Faculty Club on Campus. It will be our inspiration to paint multiple versions of this famously still standing oak tree. We will discuss Obata’s history, legacy and beautiful brushwork, and let it inspire us down to the paint on the tips of our brushes. The faculty Glen is an idyllic open sculpture garden, surrounded by redwoods on the Berkeley Campus. We will paint, and retreat for lunch (not included) at the Faculty Club, which is a Maybeck designed building. We will conclude the day with and insightful critique and tea on the veranda. Join this popular annual class in an historic East Bay location! All levels welcome.
