The
Point Reyes National Seashore Association
(PRNSA) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization. Founded in 1964, PRNSA works in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve and enhance the extraordinary natural, cultural, and recreational resources of Point Reyes National Seashore. PRNSA strives to connect the public with the park and inspire engagement on environmental issues through education programs that promote enjoyment, understanding and stewardship with the natural world.
Our mission is two-fold. On one hand, PRNSA offers park supporters the opportunity to contribute through donations, grants and memberships, so that the Seashore will indeed be passed on to the next generation with a legacy of sound stewardship. Together, in the nearly fifty years that PRNSA has been in existance, we have raised over 13 million dollars for park projects that have enhanced visitor experience, protected the park's resources, improved wildlife habitat, and in many cases, made a profound difference in people's lives.
On the other hand, PRNSA offers the public a chance to engage with the Seashore through our environmental education programs. These programs give people of all ages an opportunity to nurture their connection to nature, especially within Point Reyes. Our programs include: PRNSA Bookstores, which are located in all three visitor centers and where a portion of your purchase goes back into park projects; our Point Reyes Field Seminars, which offer a range of classes led by experts in their field to take you out of your everyday life and into the natural world; our Point Reyes Summer Science, Nature and Adventure Camps, which bring a diversity of children to our Education Center for 3-5 days of overnight exploration; and lastly our Clem Miller Environmental Education Center Programs, which allow teachers and like-minded organizations to bring their groups for a 3-5 night stay to explore environmental themes and concepts.
Over 4,000 people of all
ages attend our environmental education
programs each year. A number of teachers and past participants have written to tell us how the experience proved transformative. This year we increased the number of scholarships we awarded enabling us to promote scientific literacy and awareness of environmental issues with more children, including children who recently arrived in the U.S. as refugees from Iraq, Burma and Bhutan.
